Our History

Mom's Stories:

“One day when Lowell and I were home alone when Mom and Dad were working. I was making a jam sandwich in the pantry and a mouse jumped out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I was jumping around and calling my brother to rescue me. He told me, ‘you go stand in the hallway, I’m going to scare it and you kill it, hit it with the broom.’ So I stood behind the wall, I heard him yell ‘NOW!’ I closed my eyes and swung the broom to the floor as hard as I could. I flattened the mouse. He was laying upside down, one leg in the air and the tongue hanging out.”

and my friend and I cleaned it up before mom and dad got home but about a week later my mom walked by a glob of jelly on the wall. ‘what is this doing on the wall?!’ we both shrugged and walked away”.

“When Lowell and I would get in trouble our parents used to spank us with the fly swatter. We didn’t like the fly swatter much so we had a plan. The plan was to hide them; there must have been about six fly swatters. There was a hole in the wall behind where the fridge is now and there used to be a furnace there. We hung them on a nail behind it. Mom and Dad would be yelling and searching for that fly swatter but always turned up empty handed. The wall was eventually closed over and the fly swatters are still in it. They never found them.”

Lowell's Story:

“I had my friend over one day while I was babysitting Robin. We were just having a little fun at her expense but she didn’t like that too much. When she finally had enough she took the marmalade jar and threw it at my head, it missed and hit the wall. There was marmalade everywhere! Her and my friend and I cleaned it up before mom and dad got home but about a week later my mom walked by a glob of jelly on the wall. ‘what is this doing on the wall?!’ we both shrugged and walked away”.

Nanny's Story

“I was flagging on the road for a few years. Met a lot of great people, had a lot of fun and made some good memories. One of my favorites, though, would have to be the story of my red high heels. I was running late and I had to get to work, it took forever to get in the car, I was wearing a pair of flip flops, I thought I had left my sneakers in the trunk. I get to work and I start searching the car, sneakers are nowhere to be seen. The only other pair of shoes was a bright red pair of heels in the front passenger side of the car I had worn dancing. Being better than flip-flops, and having no time to go home and get my shoes I slipped them on. The laughs I got from my co-workers brought the attention of my boss. At first he wasn’t too pleased but I explained the situation and he told me I could go home and get my shoes.”
